For over two decades, Murthovic has treated music as a way of researching the world. As a DJ and producer he has helped shape India's electronic music subculture from the ground up; as a sound designer he has scored films, campaigns, documentaries and video games; and through Nadabramha, his studio, he now brings that same practice to artist curation, live programming and field consultation. His work moves fluidly between club and concert hall, gallery and game engine, carrying with it a background in environmental science and ethnomusicological research that shapes how he listens, wherever he's listening from.

01. About

About

Murthovic (born Sri Rama Murthy) is a sound practitioner and ethnomusicological researcher, and one of the pioneers of India's electronic music subculture. His entry into dance music goes back to the late 1990s, producing early events under the banners Frequency and Art Taxi, and bringing a wave of Indian and international talent to Hyderabad in the process. In the study of how electronic music evolved in that city, his name sits at the centre of the story.

What has followed is a career built on residency culture: the slow, sustained relationship with a room and an audience that shaped some of the world's most respected selectors. Over more than two decades, that grounding has let Murthovic move fluidly between House, Techno, Bass and IDM, folding in his own upbringing on hip hop, soul, funk, disco and early-90s crossover electronica, and, more recently, his study of Carnatic music. The result is a sound with a genuinely global palate, one that has taken him to clubs, festivals and music IPs including Boiler Room, Magnetic Fields, Red Bull Music, Echoes Of Earth, VH1 Supersonic, NH7 Weekender, Satellite Beachside and Sula Fest, with performances across Australia, Denmark, Germany, Italy, Nepal, Thailand and the UK.

For Murthovic, the pursuit of music has always been closer to fieldwork than performance alone: a selector-collector's ritual of experiencing the world through sound. That instinct is formal as much as it is philosophical: he holds a postgraduate degree in Environmental Sciences, and went on to pursue doctoral research in ethnomusicology, advancing to thesis stage before stepping away from formal submission to return fully to practice. The research habits stayed with him, treating field recording, ecological listening and cultural documentation as part of the same discipline as production and performance, and the philosophical foundation of his studio, Nadabramha.

That foundation shows up across his catalogue. His releases on Get Physical and Qilla Records, a remix for Hydrozoa, a vinyl release with Antariksha Sanchar, and the first volume of Elsewhere in India sit alongside independent work for Goethe-Institut, the Max Planck Institute, National Geographic and the British Film Institute, taking him to Latitude Festival, the London Film Festival, Copenhagen International Documentary Festival, CTM Festival Berlin, Adelaide Fringe, ACMI Melbourne, the Barbican in London, the Nine Earths Summit, World Science Festival Brisbane and Mapping Festival Geneva, among others. He is also Music Director for Elsewhere in India, an audio-visual IP that follows a cultural cyborg through a post-cyberpunk future, set against the backdrop of Indofuturism.

The proliferation of music is a shamanic selector-collector ritual: a way of experiencing the world through sound.

Nadabramha

Listen to the Universe

Murthovic, portrait against a graffiti wall

Nadabramha is Murthovic's studio and creative incubator, born out of an end-to-end audio production practice and grown into something broader. What began as sound for films, campaigns, video games, documentaries, workshops and live performances has, over time, taken on a role beyond production alone.

Today, Nadabramha offers audio expertise across production, programming, curation and field consultation. It isn't run as a conventional production house; it's built as an ecosystem meant to nurture ideas, a convergence of culture, community and sound. The name itself is a philosophy: there is music everywhere, if you're willing to listen to the universe.

Sound design. Field consultation. Artist curation. Live programming. Your search for end-to-end audio management ends here.

Founder

Nadabramha is the brainchild of Murthovic, sound practitioner and ethnomusicological researcher, and one of the initiators of India's electronic music subculture. Across two decades of associations and experiments, he has carried his multi-disciplinary philosophy of sound through radio shows, live acts, audio-visual IPs and multimedia productions, across genres and arenas. Nadabramha is where that philosophy becomes practice for other artists, brands and institutions.
